Police on Tuesday arrested five persons and seized six crude bombs from them during a raid in Thoothukudi, a town in southern Tamil Nadu. The town is notorious for gang rivalries and making of crude bombs.

Police said that the crude bombs were made in a farm in Murappanadu in Thoothukudi. Based on a tip-off police arrested the five persons on Monday morning while few others were reported absconding.

The arrested were identified as Singaravelu, 50, Muthuramalingam, 39, Suresh, 32, Jayapandi, 39 and Balasubbaiyan, 51.

Sources said that one Nataraj of Hosur had ordered Balasubbaiyan to make crude bombs for revenging the murder of his younger brother who was killed by a gang in Hosur last year.

The crude bombs were made in the farm belonging to Balasubbaiyan.
