Washington: Scientists are on track to develop a software which they claim would help self-guiding robots navigate accurately by breaking down large maps as well as rapid recalculation.
An international team, led by Mark Whitty of the University of New South Wales, is working on such a system that enables autonomous robots to rapidly recalculate their route to overcome errors in mapping and scanning which would otherwise prevent accurate navigation.
According to the scientists, the software breaks down large maps into small sections and detects any errors that have occurred due to scanning or mapping inaccuracies, then allows the robot to rapidly recalculate its path to eliminate the errors.
It has particular advantages for multiple robots operating together, say the scientists. "Imagine you are blindfolded and you are told to walk around in a square to come back to where you started - in many ways that's what an autonomous robot is like. I'm aiming to improve the accuracy of that movement," Mark said.

Scientists estimate Earth-sized planets could be common

A group of astronomers has estimated that as many as one in four stars similar to the Sun could be orbited by Earth-size planets.
A five-year observation of 166 stars within 80 light years of Earth, using the powerful Keck telescope in Hawaii, counted planets orbiting the stars, down to the smallest planets now detectable by telescopes. In findings to be published in the journal Science on Friday, the researchers found larger numbers of smaller planets than of larger planets. Although the smallest planets they saw are still several times the size of Earth, the findings caused them to conclude that Earth-sized planets could be even more common.
“Of about 100 typical Sun-like stars, one or two have planets the size of Jupiter, roughly six have a planet the size of Neptune, and about 12 have super-Earths between three and 10 Earth masses,” astronomer Andrew Howard said.
“If we extrapolate down to Earth-size planets - between one-half and two times the mass of Earth - we predict that you’d find about 23 for every 100 stars.” The scientists found 33 detectable planets orbiting 22 of the stars and then used estimates to conclude that 1.6 per cent of the stars had Jupiter-sized planets and 12 per cent had super-Earths.They also found 12 possible planets that need to be further examined.Previous studies have looked only at larger Jupiter and Saturn- sized planets.Astronomers hope to be able to find planets similar to Earth that also are close enough to their suns to be warm and have liquid water, but far enough away to not be boiling in the so-called “Goldilocks” zone, where conditions are just right for life.Last month, a group of US-based scientists said they had discovered what might be the first habitable planet outside Earth’s solar system. The team of planet hunters found an Earth-sized planet - three times the mass of Earth - in orbit around a nearby star at a distance where liquid water could exist on the surface.
Scientists hope the Kepler space telescope launched last year, which is finely tuned enough to detect Earth-sized planets orbiting distant stars, will find more such planets.

Spice Mobile launches India's first 3D phone

New Delhi: Handset maker Spice Mobility said that it has launched the country's first 3D display mobile phone, View D, priced at Rs 4,299.View D will allow users to experience images and videos in 3D without the 3D glasses, making it very convenient for a common user.

"With growing popularity of 3D content and devices, this is one segment we wanted to tap. We have created this new device for people looking for smart mobile phones," Spice Mobility Vice President (Marketing) Naveen Paul told a news agency. The company is looking at selling 20,000-30,000 units per month of View D, he added. In the competitive Indian market, handset makers are looking at innovations to drive sales.
"One has to keep innovating to offer the market compelling products, but at reasonable price points as India is a price-conscious market," Paul said.
According to IDC, 38.63 million handsets were sold in India during April-June 2010.Asked about the lack of 3D content in India, Paul said, "In India, 3D is catching up and soon there would be more devices which support 3D and with that content would also come in."
The handset is equipped with a 2.4-inch 3D display screen, two megapixel camera, FM Radio, MP3 player and expandable memory up to 16GB.View D's screen is designed in a way that allows the user to toggle between a normal 2D or 3D user interface. It also has a 'remote wipe' feature, which allows users to delete the data stored on their phones remotely, in case of loss of handset.Targetted at the metros and Tier I cities, the company will also launch a new television commercial along with other promotional activities for the product. The handset would be available through more than 50,000 retail points, including 750 Spice HotSpot retail stores.

Clues to the spread of cancer 'discovered'

In what may pave way for more effective treatments for some of the most aggressive cancers, scientists claim to have discovered vital clues to the spread of the disease in the body.An international team, led by University of New South Wales, has found that cancer cells are accompanied by growth-enabling stromal cells when they travel in the bloodstream to new sites in the body. The finding challenges the belief that metastasis is the sole preserve of cancer cells and has implications for all solid tumours, say the scientists. In fact, the team found that “enabling” pancreatic stellate cells from primary tumours have the ability to invade blood vessels to travel via the bloodstream to distant sites, where they create a hospitable environment for cancer cells to seed and grow, the ‘American Journal of Pathology’ reported.
“It’s always been presumed that only cancer cells travel in metastasis. But we’ve shown for the first time that stellate cells also travel in tandem with the cancer cells.”
“It’s like the cancer brings its own luggage with it - the stellate cells - allowing it to settle in a new place more comfortably and more quickly,” said the study’s lead author Prof. Minoti Apte.In the study, the scientists used a gender mismatch approach to investigate whether these enabling cells could migrate. Female mice were injected in the pancreas with a female cancer cell line and male pancreatic stellate cells. After seven weeks, metastatic nodules in all mice showed the presence of Y chromosome-positive male cells.
“These could only have come from the original tumour and the male pancreatic stellate cells. The challenge now is to stop PSCs from aiding and abetting pancreatic cancer cells, not only in the primary tumour site but also to prevent or diminish cancer growth in distant sites,” Apte said.

China's iPad users get free TV broadcast

China’s state-owned television network China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC) will provide a 24—hour free broadcast to iPad users in the country.
Users of Apple Inc’s wireless tablet computer would be able to watch programmes of CNC’s Chinese and world channels by downloading and installing the software from Apple stores free of charge, Xinhua reported.

The network’s channels were earlier connected to iPhone users a month ago.Wu Jincai, CNC president and deputy editor—in—chief of Xinhua news agency, said the broadcast through iPad will provide a new medium to audiences around the world to acquire Xinhua news.
The CNC started broadcasting Chinese programmes Jan 1 this year and officially launched its English language service called CNC World July 1.

Flipkart delivers on the dot

Four months ago, Flipkart.com was selling one book every minute on the Internet. Today, it sells four items every minute. The firm's success mantra: employing technology for speedy and accurate delivery to customers.Sachin and Binny Bansal co-founded the e-commerce site in 2007 after resigning from their jobs at Amazon India. With Rs. 4 lakh in seed capital and just the two of them as employees, they were pouncing on a demand-supply gap in online bookselling. The duo initially did everything, from programming, forging supplier relationships and book procurement to logistics, packing and shipping. “It was a minimal start and a case of figuring out things as they came,” Sachin recalls. “We started earning customer goodwill, and what followed was phenomenal word-of-mouth publicity. We became profitable in six months.”In 2007, Flipkart started by offering 50,000 titles. Today, it offers four million. It has 500,000 registered users, and has sold 750,000 books so far. Half the buyers have returned to buy a second book. There are websites that offer better discounts, but Flipkart plans to focus on expanding logistics and adding value. “For now, we are not joining the pricing game. The discounts and free shipping are possible because of our sales volumes, and low expenses on overheads like rent — all of which we are passing on to the customer.” The cash-on-delivery (CoD) scheme for those who hesitate to pay online owing to security fears now brings in 30 per cent of the revenue.Flipkart also continually tweaks its website, for that is where customer satisfaction first meets the technology. A preview of select pages from books will soon be up. Users have been demanding a loyalty scheme, and that too is being worked out. A better search engine, a simpler payment mechanism…the wish list stretches.
When you browse the website, add items to the shopping cart, and confirm your order, you trigger Flipkart's automated communication system. It reads your postal address code and routes the purchase order to one of the company's four warehouses — in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. If the book is not in stock, the nearest supplier is automatically queried. When the book is available, it is packed and picked up by a courier company within four to 24 hours. The book arrives at your address within one to three days.According to Sachin, the company is “aiming at 24-hour delivery of most books because that's what the customer seeks. In the future, a customer can order a book in the morning and get it by evening.”
REGIONAL MARKET
The company is also busy switching to selling music, movies, mobile phones and game, besides books. Flipkart is also deepening its presence in book selling by targeting the regional language book market, which has largely been untapped. “More books are read in regional languages. It is tough to get book suppliers on board, but once that is in place, this business will further explode,” says Sachin.

Top 10 security threats in IT

Bangalore: As the world of information technology advances, so is the threats to it are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The world recently saw a stealthy malware called Stuxnet which even exploits 4 zero-day vulnerabilities. The IT industry have realized the danger and so increased amount of attention and investments are being done in the area of data security now. Here are the top 10 IT security threats that should be taken care of. The threats are not listed in any order of severity. Malware
This is a software designed to secretly access a computer system without the owner's informed consent. A malware can be installed in many ways including the use of client-side software vulnerabilities. Browsers are the main target for vulnerabilities. Data-stealing malware are on increase now and Bancos, Gator, LegMir and Qhost are a few of them.
Web site attacks that exploit browser vulnerabilities
Web browser exploitation is the main tool for malware installation used by the cyber-criminals. Web browser vulnerabilities are commonly exploited when the user of the vulnerable host visits a malicious Web site. Web browser vulnerabilities are commonly exploited when the user of the vulnerable host visits a malicious Web site. Such attacks depend upon malicious content being rendered by the appropriate built-in interpreter or vulnerable plug-in technology. The attackers are actively placing exploit code on popular, trusted web sites where users have an expectation of effective security.
Malicious insider attacks
The insider attacks are being done by disappointed employees, consultants and/or contractors of an organization. A complete elimination of the threat of malicious insiders is not possible. As the insiders have a fair degree of physical and logical access to systems, databases, and networks, these attacks can be severe in nature.
Mobile devices
In this world of advanced technology, with iPhone worm being an example, there are worms and other malware that specifically target these devices. These attacks can potentially steal banking data and enlist these devices in a botnet.
Sophistication of botnets
Botnets have become the platform of choice for launching attacks and committing fraud on the Internet. A recent study suggested that more than 100 million computers are currently infected with botnets. Botnets are malware that infect computers and run automatically to compromise large numbers of machines for malicious activity. The present trend is to unleash a large-scale botnet attack to hide more targeted malware attacks against a specific firm.
Threats emerging form social networking
Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace can evoke serious threats to organizations. Phishing becomes very successful here by stealing IDs of users of other technologies. The trust component attributed to these sites provides an easy target for identity thieves. As the popularity of these sites grows, the amount of threat is sure to increase as well.
Cyber Espionage
It is an act of obtaining secrets without the permission of the holder of the information from individuals, organizations, governments etc through the use of cracking techniques and malicious software. Economic espionage is ever increasing nowadays.
Web application security exploits
The websites with cross site scripting, SQL injection, and other vulnerabilities largely resulted from programming errors. As the user-supplied data is not fully trusted, web 2.0 applications are very much vulnerable.
Zero-day attack
This is a computer threat that tries to exploit computer application vulnerabilities that are unknown to others or undisclosed to the software developer. These are shared by attackers before the developer of the target software knows about the vulnerability. These attacks are found largely in secure protocols such as SSL and TLS. The zero-day vulnerability could also be in providers.

Six Basic Tips For Google Adsense

Google Adsense is a quick way to earn some money, but learning the Google Adsense secret can mean earning even more. Google Adsense is an advertising program that pays you to display ads on your site, using a pay-per-click program. The host site can actually choose between text or image ads. Google will send a check when your account reaches $100, but be aware that this can take some time if you're just starting out. You may, however, be paid more quickly than you thought, depending on how well you use the program.

If you aren't already using Google Adsense, you should start; it's an opportunity you don't want to miss. Signing up isn't hard; you simply fill out the information and click on "send". After Google receives your information, they send a confirmation email, to which you must reply before getting started.

Here are a few Google Adsense Tip ideas that can help you.

- Start a blog about something specific, instead of just making random entries. For instance, if you wanted to sell chocolates, you would write all about chocolates. You wouldn't stray over to politics or horses, unless they had a connection. This can also help you to keep your traffic.

- Optimize the words you use. I learned that if you bold certain keywords, the Google ads that relate to them will pop up. This can help you with your click-through rate.
Make sure your site can be easily navigated. If a clicker can't find his or her way through your site, they probably won't be coming back.

- Learn where you should place your ads for more optimal click-through exposure.

- Always keep your site current; this helps in keeping your customers coming back to see what is new, and this in turn helps your click-through rate.

- Use the most popular keywords. Advertisers pay more to put their ads on sites that contain popular keywords, as these sites will be visited most often. This will bring in more traffic to your site, resulting in higher click pay rates. There are software programs that you can use to find the most currently popular keywords.

Google actually has a blog that tells about their Google Adsense Tip for the day and any Google news. There are also forums by Google and their affiliates where others will help you to uncover the Google Adsense secret to success. Whether you want to make $5 a week, or $500, Google can be the way to go. Learn the Google Adsense secret and start earning hundreds of dollars a week instead of just a few pennies.

The Secret Of The Perfect Kiss

Set The Mood

Set the mood by treating her like a queen. Take care of her every need so she can just lay back and let the day's stresses wash away. If it's your first date, just relax, take your time and make the entire date all about her (which means you have to tell her stuff about you too!) Look, she wants to feel like a million dollars, so treat her as though she is.

Pick The Right Situation

Take her out to a restaurant, for a moonlight walk, or cook dinner at home. Whatever the situation, create an ambience that's all about romance. Make sure the music is just right, give her your full attention, and if at all possible use candles! Candles are the secret-weapon of romantic guys everywhere. There isn't anyone who doesn't look mysterious, and glamorous by candlelight.

Sweet, Sweet, Breath And Soft, Soft, Lips

Guys, no one likes fish-breath! Or cigarette-breath come to that. Now wine-breath or chocolate-breath may just be OK, depending on the tastes of your partner, but you know what? To play safe, brush like a dentist! If you can't do that, then always have breath fresheners with you--any brand as long as they are peppermint or spearmint--and don't forget the lip balm.

Learn From The Masters

Too may guys dive straight in and have her pinned against the wall in three seconds flat. Look. She's most likely very tentative so be tentative too! She'll like that a lot. You must have watched the masters at work in those wonderful old classic movies starring Bogart and Cary Grant? It may take an entire 90 minutes to work up to THE kiss, but when it finally happens the sexual tension is just explosive! Well watch those movies again. Take note of the body language; the flashing eyes; the meaningful looks; the brushing of fingertips. What's NOT being said is louder--and way sexier--than any porn movie!

Nuzzle Her Neck And Kiss Her Face

Why do so many guys miss this amazing ace card? Unlike guys (most) women are slow starters. They take a while to warm up, and this is sort of kissing foreplay. Spend some time "investing" in the kiss to come.

Google AdSense Tips

Many of the pages on this site display text ads from Google's AdWords program. To display these ads, a site must join Google's AdSense program. Joining is free, but not all sites are eligible to join. Once you're accepted, however, it's very simple to place the ads on your pages and to start generating revenue for your site. AdSense will serve ads that are generally very relevant to the content of a particular page. Here are some tips based on my experiences so far with the AdSense program.

Tip #1: Don't put ads on empty pages.

When I reworked my site, I built a skeleton set of pages that had no content, just titles and some meta tags. I displayed ads on those pages, however. Although all you see are public service ads at first, the very act of displaying ads on a page causes the AdSense web crawler to quickly fetch that page for analysis. A page with good content will thus begin showing relevant paying ads fairly quickly.
If you don't have any content, then, Google will have to guess as what your page is about. It may guess wrong, and so the ads that it displays may not be relevant. You'll have to wait until Google re-crawls the site for the ads to correct themselves. Here is what Google had to say when I asked them about how often the AdSense crawler updates a site:
Thank you for taking the time to update your site. New ads will start appearing on your site the next time our crawler re-indexes your site. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to control how often our crawlers index the content on your site.
Crawling is done automatically by our bots. When new pages are added to your website or introduced to the AdSense program, our crawlers will usually get to them within 30 minutes. If you make changes to a page, however, it may take up to 2 or 3 weeks before the changes are reflected in our index. Until we are able to crawl your web pages, you may notice public service ads, for which you will not receive any earnings.
It's better to flesh out the page before you start displaying ads on it.

Tip #2: Don't be afraid to ask questions

If you're wondering about something, don't be afraid to ask Google. So far, they've always responded to my questions within a working day. There are two email addresses to use, depending on the type of question:
Please feel free to email us at adsense-tech@google.com if you have additional technical questions or concerns. For general program or account questions, please email adsense-support@google.com.
Their responses are always very polite, and they appreciate getting problem reports and suggestions.

Tip #3: Avoid non-English characters on English pages

This one is a bug, to be honest. My surname is French, and I prefer to write it out correctly with the accent grave on the first "e". Every page on my site would then include at least two accented letters, because my name shows up twice in the footer. On some pages my name shows up two or three more times.
Normally, this wouldn't be an issue. But on some pages the presence of the accented characters is enough to cause AdSense to display non-relevant ads in French. This happens whether the browser indicates a preference for French or not. When I reported this to Google, this is the answer they gave me:
Hello Eric,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
We are currently working as quickly as we can to address this problem. As soon as we have more information for you, we will email you again.
We appreciate your patience.
Sincerely,
The Google Team
Until this is resolved, I've decided to strip out all accents except on the pages that are actually in French.

Tip #4: Check your keyword density

Although Google doesn't release exact details as to how they determine the ads to serve on a given page, they do tell us that it's the text content of the page that matters, not the meta tags. Before serving ads on a page, then, you might want to check its keyword density. A good, free tool for doing this is found here:

http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html

This lets you fine-tune the page before exposing it to the AdSense crawler.

AdSense tips

Google AdSense is a pay-per-click (PPC) program that can give you advertising revenue from each page on your website with a minimal investment in time and no additional resources.

AdSense delivers relevant ads that are targeted to the content people find on your site.

In many advertising networks and websites, including AdSense, the advertiser is charged for advertising their ad only when a user clicks on their ad. How much they pay (for that click) is called their Cost Per Click or CPC.

Here you will find some simple and effective AdSense tips that will increase your revenue. If you haven't already joined AdSense program, you should sign up first.

Now it's time to show you some tips and tricks that will optimize your AdSense ads.

Top AdSense tips

AdSense Tip #1: Find your keywords

Before serving ads on a web page, check its keyword density. A free and advanced tool for finding the most prominent keywords in a page can be found here: SEO Density Analyzer. Copy the most important keywords to a text file ([web page name]-adsense-keywords.txt).

AdSense Tip #2: Improve your keywords

Get keyword suggestions from Overture Search Inventory and from Google AdWords Sandbox. Get new keywords that can help you improve your ad relevance. Enter the keywords from [web page name]-adsense-keywords.txt and save the suggestions to [web page name]-adsense-suggestions.txt.

AdSense Tip #3: Keep your website focused on a theme

Use the keyword suggestions to enhance your web pages and to build theme-based content. And also try to get your keywords into the anchor text of your incoming links as much as possible. Don't forget that Google AdSense is keyword-targeted advertising: Google AdSense bases its advert topics on your websites content, this means that content-rich websites of a popular topic should attract a large amount of ads.

AdSense Tip #4: Write a new page every day

One of the best tips is to add a new page to your web site every day. The more content you have, the more visitors you will get. Put an Adsense unit on each and every content page of your site. But where? You will find more about that from the next AdSense tips.

AdSense Tip #5: Choose the right AdSense format

Wider formats are successful because the ads are compact, easy to read and are complementary to the content. The top three AdSense formats are:

  1. 336x280 large rectangle
  2. 300x250 medium rectangle
  3. 160x600 wide skyscraper

Another successful format is the 468x15 horizontal ad links, that can be placed under your navigation bar.
In part one of the AdSense tips you found out how to improve your keywords and how to build theme-based content.
  • AdSense Tip #1: Your keywords are important
  • AdSense Tip #2: Improve your keywords
  • AdSense Tip #3: Keep your website focused on a theme
  • AdSense Tip #4: Write a new page every day
  • AdSense Tip #5: Choose the right AdSense format
The next AdSense tips will show you the importance of positioning the ads and how to increase your revenue by adding multiple AdSense units.

AdSense Tip #6: Color tips

When creating your Google AdSense ads it is recommended to use the color scheme and style of your website so that the ads blend in well. Ads without background color and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background color.

Create a custom AdSense palette:

  • border color = background color of your web site
  • background color = background color of your web site
  • link color = blue, color of your links
  • url color = black, #999999
  • text color = black, #333333, color of your main content
You can also rotate your color palette: select multiple color palettes that blend with your site to create variety.

AdSense Tip #7: Position tips

Visitors tend to look at the big headlines to see if your page is worth reading. If you get them interested, they will read the text and look for your navigation links.

Place the AdSense ads in a prominent place around the top/left part of your page or under your headlines, where your visitors are most likely to look at.

If you have an article page with a long body of text, the bottom of that article is a good place for AdSense ads because your visitors read the text and then they want more resources.

AdSense Tip #8: Increase the number of ads, but not too much

If you have a lot of text on a page, use multiple AdSense units. You can use up to three AdSense units on a page, two AdSense search boxes and one unit of ad links.

Link units allow the user to refine what they're interested in. So if they may not be interested in specific ads on your page, they might be interested in a particular topic, and by clicking on a link unit and a link in the link unit, they'll be able to specify that they're interested in that specific topic and get a lot more options and variety on the ads that might appear.

AdSense for Search allows visitors to search Google.com or your sites (up to 3 domains). You earn money whenever they click on the ads that come up on the search results. If you click the Open search results in a new browser window checkbox in the AdSense for Search settings, you won't lose your visitors.

AdSense Tip #9: Preview Google ads

You can find out what ads will be served by Google AdSense if you install Google AdSense Preview Tool, a very simple tool available only for Internet Explorer 6.0. Click to advertiser sites without generating invalid clicks, and easily add their URLs to your URL filter list. Because AdSense uses geo-targeting, Google serves different ads for other countries. Instead of faking your IP or travelling abroad to test your ads, use this AdSense tool to see what ads see your visitors from France, Germany or other countries.

There may be no Google AdSense ads available for your webpage, so Googlw will display Public Service Ads. You can hide them using alternate colors or images. Make sure you include the image in a simple html file as a link (use target="_top"). The image size should be the same as the dimension of AdSense units. In the alternate url box, enter the absolute url of the html file.

Read more about alternate ads.

AdSense Tip #10: What not to do

  • Don't click on your own ads
  • Don't ask others to click on your Google ads
  • Don't manually change AdSense code
  • Don't place Google ads on sites that include prohibited content (e.g.: adult sites)
  • Don't employ cloaking, hidden text or farm links
  • Don't use AdSense ads on the same page with similar ads (e.g.: Yahoo Publisher Network)

in part one of the AdSense tips you found out how to improve your keywords and how to build theme-based content.
Then we showed you the importance of positioning the ads and how to increase your revenue by adding multiple AdSense units.

AdSense Tip #11: Show images above or next to your ads

Placing images above AdSense ads is not necessarily prohibited by program policies. However, depending on the method of implementation this could be considered encouraging users to click on ads. So you should include a border line between the ads and the images. Don't show specific products in your images, in order not to mislead the visitors. Just use generic images that will increase the visibility of your ads.

AdSense Tip #12: Use section targeting

Use section targeting to emphasize some content in your page. On your site, place this code where you want to emphasize.

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->
Content you want to emphasize.
<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

If you want some content to be ignored, use

<!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->

AdSense Tip #13: Alternate the colors of your ads

AdSense allows you to have up to 4 color variations for each variable for which you can specify color. You should do that if you put AdSense ads on pages that receive many impressions from the same visitors (for example forums) to reduce ad blindness. For example:

google_color_border = ["628098","628098","000000","000000"];
google_color_link = ["000000","BBB90C","BBB90C","628098"];
google_color_url = ["000000","628098","000000","000000"];
google_color_text = ["628098","628098","000000","000000"];

AdSense Tip #14: Your Google ads should be visible

Make sure your text ads are visible to the surfers in all screen formats. If you put the ads in a table, give sufficient breathing room, i.e. proper cell padding and cell spacing to make the ads stand out from the rest of your content.

AdSense Tip #15: Use AdSense channels

You can categorize the content of your website into channels and then track your performance. This way you can experiment with different types of ads and see which is performing the best. Instead of buying an AdSense tracker, you can enter the most important pages in your site and see how they are doing. Create up to 200 channels for AdSense.

8 Tips to Observe Adsense Units

Adsense is one of the most common revenue generators for blogs and websites. Usually you can drastically improve your click-through rate and overall earnings by positioning the ads wisely, by improving the content targeting or by optimizing the ad units directly. Below I will cover the last point, how to optimize the Adsense units with 8 simple tips:
  1. The three top performing ad units are: 336×280 large rectangle, 300×250 inline rectangle and 160×600 wide skyscraper. Consider using those units if possible, but bear in mind that other formats might be more suitable for your website design.
  2. The most successful link color is blue. This fact is connected with the roots of the Internet where all major websites used to feature blue links.
  3. Apart from blue links you can also use a link color that matches the pattern of your website (i.e. If you use green links make the Adsense links of the same color).
  4. As a general rule of thumb, blend (no border, same background) your Adsense units if your website has a light color scheme and contrast (border, contrasting background) the units if you are using a dark color scheme
  5. If the ads are placed within the content you should avoid using borders while ad units outside of the content can use borders to call attention.
  6. If your website has mainly repeat visitors (like Forums) you can rotate the background color of the units to reduce ad blindness
  7. Consider removing the “Advertise on this site” message from your units. This can be done on the control panel under the “My Account” section, disabling the “Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up” feature.
  8. Test, test and test. Every website is unique so make sure you test with different colors and formats and track the results to fine tune your Adsense units.
